Art Baesl 2016
Over the years, art has had an effect on us, whether we realize it or not. From the billboards or murals we see on the street to the photos we see in a magazine, art is all around us and plays an enormous role in our everyday lives. What about the artists themselves, though? When we hear the word “artist”, our minds quickly move to the biggest names in art. Picasso, Rembrandt and Van Gogh are just a few of the more popular choices.
As a 21-year-old female visual artist myself, I chose to challenge this standard by creating Art Baesl. I drew inspiration from Miami’s own Art Basel, where artists join forces to create a yearly showcasing event. Instead, I used the power of social media to recruit a variety of talented upcoming female visual artists and photographers from around the globe. My goal in all of this was to bring attention to the young and talented women in our day and age. Women are an important part of society and life and I felt it was only right to bring all of this girl power together for one night. Each of these awesome ladies, or “art baes” as I referred to them, is talented in every aspect, with amazing potential. I aimed to shed light and give each of them the recognition and admiration they so rightly deserved, and I think I succeeded in that. With an attendee list of over 250 people, I proved to everyone and myself that I was able to curate a successful and meaningful event. Art Baesl not only brought awareness to the amazing power of women, but to the strength and talent we possess that is too often underrated. I would like to give a huge thank you to all those who helped me organize, all those who attended and all those that continue to support me and what I do. THANK YOU.
